MINI has recalled about 35,000 Cooper models for failing to meet side-impact crash test requirements.

The affected vehicles are the 2014-2015 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Hardtop two-door model and the 2015 John Cooper Works Hardtop two-door, with 30,456 units in the U.S. and 4,130 in Canada.

According to the British automaker, the vehicles do not meet the crash test requirements, potentially causing a higher risk of injury to rear seat passengers in the case of an accident. As a result, MINI dealerships will install additional energy absorption material between the rear interior side panels.
